100 Words

I must be catching up - two in one day.

100 Words every high school graduate should know.

Now I think I'm pretty good at vocabulary - partly because I'm a crossword nut and the rest because I'm a snobbish pseudo intellectual geek. It's a good list but truth is about 5-10% of them completely threw me. Ziggurat??? (my spell check doesn't know that one either). And about another 10% I had heard but honestly didn't really know the definition.

I'm also betting most high schoolers, even those in honor classes won't get 50% of them. They should, but knowing a lot of them, including my own, I have my doubts.

I'd love some feedback on this one.

Underground Garage

Well I've had enough of people around the office playing pop, crap or country music, often from their computers. I should start blocking it, just for spite. Naw, I'm not that mean. You know I often have to sit at people's desks to work on their workstations. They could have the courtesy to shut down their music.

Well that's not the real point of this post. Little Steven's Underground Garage is. I've started listening to shows on-line. I know it helps that I'm a big fan of his (vis a vis Bruce but also when he went solo). I think his Silvio character on the Sopranos is great. I've known but never really listened to the UG because like any such show it is relegated to late nights.

It is far more cool then I ever realized. Lots of archived shows all there for your listening pleasure.
This week's show is a tribute to Bob Dylan. Absolutely excellent.

It's nirvana baby!

God Strikes Falwell Down

Well according to his version of the way things work.
I'm not one to rejoice in the someone's death but in this case I have trouble in finding any remorse either. His memorial should have a great big 'H' on it for hypocrite.

And this from SFGate

(05-15) 17:04 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- Members of San Francisco's gay and lesbian community this evening are staging an "anti-memorial" in the Castro neighborhood for the Rev. Jerry Falwell, who died today.

Michael Petrelis, a blogger, longtime HIV survivor and organizer of the 5 p.m. event, said that the founder of the Moral Majority needed to be remembered for his legacy of hatred.

Mitt & Al Show

Maybe they could get the gig to replace Imus. What a pair.

Catholics and evangelicals came to the LDS Church's and GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney's defense Wednesday, calling on the Rev. Al Sharpton to answer for suggesting Mormons don't believe in God.
What I said was that we would defeat him, meaning as a Republican," Sharpton told the wire service. "A Mormon, by definition, believes in God. They don't believe in God the way I do, but by definition, they believe in God."
Sharpton told CNN's Paula Zahn on Wednesday evening he was responding to Hitchens' claim that Mormons are an example of how religion promotes racism because the church had excluded blacks.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints did not grant the priesthood to males of all races until 1978.
Sharpton said if Mormons did not in the past see blacks as equal, they're not "real worshippers of God because I do not believe God distinguishes between people. That is not bigotry. That's responding to their beliefs.",1249,660219285,00.html
