Spam Spam Spam

Well I got a GMail account on the 23rd. No big deal, in fact I had turned down a couple of other invites but decided I wanted to reserve a certain name at GMail afterall (thanks Dave for the invite). So far I've told no one the address. I've posted it nowhere. I went in there today and there were 5 spams in the spam folder. Are these assholes just using random names? Are they taking other emails and changing the domain part of the name (that would work in my case)?

Of course I still say spam only exists because some poor fools out there actually go for it. It would make no sense for the spammers to continue doing it unless someone is making money.
Spammers are the scum of the earth.
One group in China kept using one of my domain name as the spoofed sender on their shit. The result was lots of notifications of bounced mail back to me from ISP that couldn't tell obvious spam from legit mail. Even worse some of my legit email to other started getting blacklisted, then just blackholed. (I don't believe ISP should ever use blacklists. The results are unreliable and can cause serious business disruptions - I know - been there - have the T-shirt).

On a sad note(well not all together) going to a send-off party for one of my drinking buds who is moving to NYC. Good move for him - many of us will really miss him. Party should be fun - well Hell Yeah! Beer!

Bah Humbug!

How's that for a curmudeonly start.
Just kidding. I actually like Christmas quite alot. (and btw, please excuse that last post where I referred to it as the holidays. It's Christmas - stop the PC and call it by it's rightful name - even if it is just secular for me).

It's all the materialism and wasting of money that gets me. I, certainly like most of us, don't need more 'stuff'. I'm a packrat as it is. Please, all that fits into my oversized two-car garage is the car. The one car. My truck remains outside. I swear I'm going to clean it real soon now.
I just need to find more time for ebay and start ridding myself of much of my 'stuff'. New Year's resolution??? To hell - tis the season - Goodwill or the likes should have it. That's the spirit -

GIVE! GIVE! GIVE!
Maybe by next year I'll return to my senses.
Be of good spirit -
hmmmmm Guiness sounds like the right spirit about now.

Quiz

Well I usually don't do these quiz things (well not entirely true - I did the OS one a while back - Amiga btw) but this one caught my eye.
I guess the results were predictable.

Some People Can't Take a Joke

One of the great wonderment I have of people is their contradictions when it comes to free speech. Conservatives, by right of what they should be, staunch defenders of the constitution, are always blustering about the liberal media. Liberals, who swear about the need for a free press and free speech are the ones always trying to pass anti-something laws to stop hate speech or ideas they consider politically incorrect.

Well our friends in the UK seem to be have a problem about it too. Rowan Atkinson (funniest Brit since Peter Sellers) has come squarely down on the side of free speech.

"There should be no subject about which you cannot make jokes."

Or any other comment!
There has been increasing talk in this country about sedition acts. Reports of our military spokesman using disinformation in press releases.

There is a link on this page for the eff.org and free internet speech.

Coffee Break

Sitting in a coffee house in Redding called Breaking New Grounds having a cappuccino. How is that for different? Just killing time right now but hoping I can get out of here in time to make it home for Friday beers with the buds. The weather today is fantastic. Warm and bright (almost too bright, the glare hurts my eyes even with the shades on.

So nice to find a place with free internet access. Stayed at a Best Western last night with free WiFi and now at this place. You it has gotten so that you can find an open access point almost anywhere in an urban area. Most are probably from negligence from people unwilling to try to figure out setting up encryption (thank you all, not only does this provide a free ride but often results in billable hours - HA). However I suspect others may be doing it on purpose. Of course places like BW and coffee houses do it to bring in the business. To hell with Starbucks and their pay per minute T-Mobile WiFi. Support the enlightened who see the potential of drawing in customers with free extras like this.

Restart

Well I think I was just suffering post-election depression. No just busy, the holiday last week and in need of a break. Four days on the central coast. Stuffed, several times. It was almost bliss.

Time to celebrate. Not really. Tom Ridge is the latest to go. Lets see, no terror attacks on his watch is the claim. My guess is he made no difference, it would have been the same with a chimp holding the post. Homeland Security, how did they manage to come up with that name? Sounds too Nazi to me, but maybe that's the point. Duct tape and colored terror alerts, some claim to fame. Oh wait there is the TSA. Everyone loves them. Goodbye and good riddance. Now who will we get from Georgie?
