Trick or Treat

She's a cruel trick, now caught being herself and turns into a delicious ironic treat.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rick-jacobs/
ann-coulter-on-the-gay-_b_70156.html

Toward the end of dinner, one of my companions insisted that the painfully thin, emotive, long blond haired thing in a small black dress with nearly exposed bosoms was none other than Ann Coulter. I did not believe him. Why would Ann Coulter, who hates homosexuals, go to dinner at gay ground zero? Why would she spend her hard earned gay-bashing royalties to enrich Jeffrey Sanker and otherwise support gay-owned businesses?
But sure enough, he was right. I could not tell if she was dining with people she hates or just demonstrating that she's a fraud who says whatever she must to sell books so that she can live the gay urban lifestyle. Based on her behavior last night, I am sure it is the latter, although based on her table mates, it could be both.
.....
Clearly, Ann Coulter was caught in a lie. There she was, burbling like a fountain about her interview on Donny Deutsch's show in which she says Jews should be Christians, completely at ease in the heart of the gayest city on the planet. She was a natural with the gay men who surrounded her. She enjoyed the fawning attention by her two not so masculine male escorts, clearly in her milieu.

I was therefore shocked that when we tried to engage her in conversation, she became embarrassed, turned away, nestling her head inside her long, blond hair, much as would an embarrassed school girl caught stealing the answers to an exam.

Then there's the question of that adam's apple....

Clear Channel

So how can it be that the #1 album in the country get so little radio play?

http://downwithtyranny.blogspot.com/2007/10/
clear-channel-republican-propaganda.html

Republican radio network Clear Channel, a monopoly in many cities and a dominant player in most of the rest, isn't interested. Is it because Springsteen has been an outspoken campaigner for Democrats and progressives? Clear Channel has taken a political stand with its programming in the past. Just think back to their boycott of the Dixie Chicks. Oh, no... not way back, just back to when they released their most recent album. Despite being one of the top 10 best-selling American albums of the year-- across all genres and demographics-- radio studiously ignored it. There were maybe half a dozen country stations that even played it at all. What Clear Channel did to the Dixie Chicks is a watertight case for the need to break the media companies up into a thousand pieces. (John Sununu disagrees; he's pro-censorship.) I spoke with an old friend who heads a record company and preferred to speak off the record.
"When you have artists like the Dixie Chicks and Bruce Springsteen who have overtly spoken out against this Administration, they are taken to task in spite the clear and undeniable indications from the marketplace that people want to hear their music. What seems to be happening-- if sales are any kind of a barometer of what the marketplace is-- is that these politically-connected radio networks like Clear Channel are not looking to succeed as radio stations as much as pushing forward some political agenda.

There are choices.

They never change. Why I harbor a deep hate of most large monopolistic utilities.

This in spite of reporting a 41% increase in profits this last quarter.
Hopefully someone in the board room gets wind of what his little robots are doing.

An editorial in today's Bakersfield Californian offers upo an alternative the Chad Vegas' idea...

Here's an alternative: Create a donation-financed freedom shrine on each campus in the district -- a centrally located spot frequented by students where the founding documents proposed by Vegas might be displayed in perpetuity.

Sponsors might add additional documents to the mix, rotating them among the campuses over time: the Treaty of Paris (ending the Revolutionary War), George Washington's farewell address, the Monroe Doctrine, the Emancipation Proclamation, the Gettysburg Address, the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution (authorizing women's right to vote), Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech, the text of Brown v. Board of Education (written in 1954 by Chief Justice Earl Warren), John F. Kennedy's Inaugural Address, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, etc.

letters/story/269070.html

Gee, what a fine idea. Except I know, you all know and even Chad Vegas knows, that isn't what he wants. He and fellow evangelical Ms. Sullivan have an agenda and it's not history. Besides, if I recall, US History is still a required high school course.

Dumb & Dumbest

Spotted this in a Californian blog today of a sheriffs office release...

On October 23, 2007 at approximately 4:30 pm a State Parole Officer was driving in the alleyway of the 700 block of Wisteria Street in Oildale and noticed a male subject seated in a
parked vehicle, which was in a residential neighborhood with children nearby.

As the Officer drove by the vehicle he saw that the male occupant was disrobed from the waist down and masturbating. The Officer stopped and detained the male subject, who was
identified as Burton William Evankovich, 28 years of age from Bakersfield.

The Officer also learned that Burton William Evankovich was on probation status with the Kern County Probation Department for a drug related conviction. Detectives of the Kern
County Sheriff's Office and Officers of the Kern County Probation Department were contacted and assisted in the investigation.

In the search of the vehicle of Burton William Evankovich a portable DVD player was found playing a pornographic video.

Also located was approximately 132 grams of suspected marijuana that was packaged for the purpose of sales, along with scales, packaging material, currency along with an
electronic shocking device and a weapon commonly referred to a "slungshot".

There was no Halloween bogeyman in the closet for one Brooklyn woman — just a 7-foot-long python in her toilet. Nadege Brunacci was washing her hands in her bathroom before dawn Monday when she glanced back and saw the slithering serpent peeking out from her toilet, most of its body hidden in the pipes.

"I turned on the light and screamed," Brunacci, 38, told the New York Daily News. "It still makes my heart race."

Brunacci slammed down the lid, put a heavy box on top of the toilet and began calling for help, which came from her landlord and firefighters. Plumbers had to tear apart the downstairs neighbor's pipes to capture the snake, she said.
......
Brunacci says she started using her daughter's training toilet after the scare in her third-floor apartment. And when she brushes her teeth, she said, "I'm looking over my shoulder."

DAMN!

Inquiring minds.....interesting article on why we cuss.

Fucking became the subject of congressional debate in 2003, after NBC broadcast the Golden Globe Awards. Bono, lead singer of the mega-band U2, was accepting a prize on behalf of the group and in his euphoria exclaimed, "This is really, really, fucking brilliant" on the air. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which is charged with monitoring the nation's airwaves for indecency, decided somewhat surprisingly not to sanction the network for failing to bleep out the word. Explaining its decision, the FCC noted that its guidelines define "indecency" as "material that describes or depicts sexual or excretory organs or activities" and Bono had used fucking as "an adjective or expletive to emphasize an exclamation."

Cultural conservatives were outraged. California Representative Doug Ose tried to close the loophole in the FCC's regulations with the filthiest piece of legislation ever considered by Congress. Had it passed, the Clean Airwaves Act would have forbade from broadcast

the words "shit", "piss", "fuck", "cunt", "asshole", and the phrases "cock sucker", "mother fucker", and "ass hole", compound use (including hyphenated compounds) of such words and phrases with each other or with other words or phrases, and other grammatical forms of such words and phrases (including verb, adjective, gerund, participle, and infinitive forms).

Science & Education

Aside from our KHSD trustees concern over posting a national motto let's be concerned about something that matters. Science education has gone to hell in this country and here is why.

Russell Seitz (have I mentioned him before? read all his postings).
He points out how the video above had to get in a dig about sexism 50 years ago but here is most important part.
Will some one please dig up mortality stats comparing elevensomething amateur scientists and the meth lab operators that provide work for underemployed SWAT teams? it is hard to believe that theJunior Lab Technician death toll to date exceeds the number of fingers on a nitrogen tri-iodide enthusiast.

When only criminals have chemistry sets, kids will have only the most widely available non-household chemicals and solvents at their disposal . This means a lot of explosive propellants and detonating compounds, for tens of millions of households have ample ammunition in their gun closets, nitromethane and ether in their garages, and acetone and peroxides on their powder room cosmetic shelves.

http://adamant.typepad.com/seitz/2007/10/suitable-for-ye.html

The nanny state, overzealous law enforcement and lawyers can all take some blame. Oh and high school boards with misguided agendas too.

Columbus Day

Maybe we should all go to Luigi's. Of course it makes a convenient federal Monday holiday for October.

It is believed that the first celebration of the discovery of America occurred in New York, on October 12, 1792, when the order of Columbia held a dinner in order of Columbus. At that time the only statue of the great discoverer in existence was situated in New York. However, when we celebrated our centennial in 1876, the Italian citizens of Philadelphia had collected enough money to erect a statue of their compatriot in Fairmount Park.
Congress voted funds to help state an international exposition as a tribute to the historic event and to Columbus himself. The Columbian Exposition took place in Chicago in the summer of 1893 because it was not possible to complete the buildings in time for an observance in 1892. It was attended by millions of visitors from all over the world. Congress also asked the President to issue a proclamation urging all Americans to observe the four hundredth anniversary of our continent "by suitable exercises in their schools, and other places of assembly."
In 1905, the governor of Colorado asked the people of his state to celebrate the anniversary; in 1906, the mayor of Chicago made a similar request of the citizens. The Knights of Columbus also kept urging the states to make the date a legal holiday. Such a bill became a law in New York in 1909.

http://www.patriotism.org/columbus_day/

Of there are some other ideas.

Police arrested American Indian Movement leader Russell Means and 83 protesters at today's Columbus Day parade for blocking the route.

But there were no major incidents or violent behavior, police said.

At least 500 people protested, and many of them came prepared to draw attention and go to jail over their belief that the Italian American celebration has racist roots.

No Big Deal

Some may think the whole 'In God We Trust' issue is trivial. I might too except for WHO is pushing for it.

First I read N.L.'s post here
http://www.nlbelardes.com/blogger/2007/10/
bakersfield-in-god-we-trust-issue.html

Good sensible post with good reasoning. That led me to his link to Jackie Park's post
http://jackieparks.blogspot.com/2007/10/
whose-god-do-we-trust.html

Another good one with several thoughtful comments including mine...

Why avoid what we all know. There is no secret to Chad Vegas' agenda. He plays the evasion game but no one really buys it. Only people with the same agenda try to come up with other reasons to place that motto there. Vegas only wants to inject religion, namely his religion, into public schools. Pretending to call it historical is snake oil and everyone knows it.

As to your comment ...
The only people who should have a beef with the motto are Atheists. Since I’ve never really understood Atheism because I think it’s impossible to prove God doesn’t exist, I’ll leave it to them to explain their opposition.

Well I'm agnostic but it's just as impossible to prove God does exist. By their own definition believers have faith. Classrooms are a place for knowledge not faith.

And as of now 68 comments on The Californian's blog
http://people.bakersfield.com/home/Blog/editorials/15407

Very few editorials stir up that much activity. It's a big deal to more than Mr. Vegas and Ms. Sullivan.

<=========================================================>

Can You Do The Backstroke?

KCHSD trustee and christian advocate Chad Vegas' proposal to add the 'national motto' 'In God We Trust' certainly is causing some consternation amongst his fellow board members. He now tries to soften his attempt to push his religious agenda into the classrooms by suggesting the addition of other historical documents. Is this national motto even historical? It's only been around fifty years so not really, at least compared to the constitution and the declaration of independence. His fellow board members may go along because after all the easiest thing to do is please the most people or at the worst only slightly pissoff the rest. After all here in the bible-belt of California the last thing you want to do is sound irreligious or unpatriotic. Vegas knows this and has now even resorted to calling his opponents as such.

KHSD board member Chad Vegas said posting “In God We Trust” in classrooms is a relatively minor issue compared to the rest of the board’s activities. However, he heavily criticized opponents of his proposal.

On Wednesday, he called into question the appropriateness of board members who do not vote in favor of his proposal.

“If that’s the kind of elected officials they are, I think the people need to rethink whether or not those are the kind of men they want in office,” Vegas told The Californian, “the kind of men who don’t even support the Constitution they are sworn to uphold being taught to their students.”

He also said, “I would be hard-pressed, I think, to come to the conclusion that a group of men who have been elected and sworn to uphold the Constitution would vote against posting it.”

Vegas also was a guest Wednesday on "The Inga Barks Show" on KERN Newstalk 1410 criticizing trustees and The Californian.

“If these trustees and the newspaper is gonna reveal their real agenda, their bottom line agenda is they’re a group of liberal secular atheists who hate God, who are not patriotic,” Vegas said. “They do not love this country. They would prefer that we become much more like a communist China or Russia, bottom line.”

http://www.bakersfield.com/hourly_news/story/251838.html

Joe McCarthy is back......

A bravo for the board president for calling it like it is

Then there's the solid "no" from board president Bob Hampton.

"That's just a way for him to get religion into the schools," Hampton said. "He's trying to evade the issue now that he's got all the negative publicity."

and another for The Bakersfield Californian editorial staff for saying it too

In Allah We Trust

Can't they just go away. Ms. Sullivan and her good buddy Mr. Vega would like every classroom in Bakersfield to place a poster with 'In God We Trust' on the wall. That should of course improve every student's scores by at least 20%.

Now they swear there is not a christian agenda here. Okay let's put a poster that say 'Allah Akabar' and just see what that does.

Now as far a I'm concerned the the real motto is and shall always be...

That's the Great Seal of The United States of America by the way. Wonder how many high school students could tell you that or translate the motto.
